CBL

Random question I've received on CBL diet, the question can't really be simplified, the quoted a section to be and asked my thoughts, I am going to quote this section here for those who do not own the book as it won't be clear what I'm answering. So, the quoted section is --

"What makes caffeine integral to Carb Back-Loading is the ability to cause transient insulin
insensitivity. Not only does insulin interfere with the actions of caffeine, but caffeine interferes with
insulin's function as well, by decreasing insulin mediated tGLUT response. With caffeine, it's
possible to both amplify Carb Back-Loading when training at the perfect time, but also to modify
insulin sensitivity to accommodate training at non-ideal times, such as in first thing in the morning.
People are the most sensitive to insulin in the morning, and most apt to store excess carbs as fat —
caffeine changes that. Cells can no longer clear glucose as rapidly, so the extended elevation in
blood sugar causes the body to release higher amounts of insulin, attempting to clear the sugar
faster. It’s a positive feedback loop: caffeine inhibits insulin action and the body interrupts this as a
need to produce more insulin."

My thoughts on the above are that caffeine reduces insulin sensitivity, that's all I agree with, the rest is nonsense. For example where it says "people are the most sensitive to insulin in the morning, and most apt to store excess carbs as fat" the first part is true, the body is more sensitive to insulin in the morning because glycogen stores and blood glucose are lower after sleeping for 8 hours without food, but the second part where it says "and most apt to store excess carbs as fat" is flat out wrong, when glycogen stores are low (after sleeping for 8 hours or exercising) less glucose is taken up by the fat cells and more is taken up by the liver and muscles.

Kiefer is talking about trying to manipulate insulin levels during training, in other words to increase insulin levels during training in order to reduce cortisol I assume. The whole cortisol spike during training thing was put to rest a long time ago, exercise induced cortisol spikes don't even fucking matter.
